Being a good sport

Being a good sport: "Posted by Manu Rekhi, Product Manager

Summer’s that time of year when a lot of Googlers channel our inner Tiger, Ronaldinho, Venus, Shaq or Albert. Admittedly, most of us are weekend warriors and couch potatoes, not to mention keyboard jockeys — and we tend to fall into a few other categories, too. Fortunately Google can help us all out: we’ve got some new sports-related products and search features launching. When it comes to sports information, do you recognize your type here?

Hometown Hero. Whether across continents or across branches of the family tree, you’re fiercely loyal to that team that stirred your childhood passions. But time zones, TV broadcast schedules, and the demands of, say, work or dinner may not always cooperate. Now Google can deliver up-to-the-minute scores, stats, and schedules 24x7. Check out:

- Google.com — Fire it up on the browser of either your PC or mobile phone to search for your favorite player or team to view real-time World Cup scores and schedules

My paper can beat up your paper!

Yep, I'm still alive. I just did one of my usual deals of forgetting to update this thing. I have a horrid habit of doing that. I'm sure everybody realizes that by now. Then again, perhaps not. I doubt there are that many people reading here.

On to the news of the day, The Telescope won third place this morning at the ACP conference in Los Angeles. That makes us one of the best newspapers in the country.

Life is good.

Park Yourself

I have yet to meet a person who can say they enjoy parallel parking. BMW and Toyota though might make the process just a little less stressful with their automatic parking systems.

Re: The National Debt

Have you ever wondered who owns the US' national debt? The Skeptical Optimist shows you with a pie chart created with data from the US Treasury. Apparently we own the majority of it in some sense or another. The rest is owned by various foreign interests, with Japan and China in the lead. Also of note, the $55 billion owned by OPEC. OPEC??

Getting a job sucks

The process of getting a job sucks. Don't let anybody tell you differently. It's both time-consuming and stressful. Since November, I have submitted applications to 22 different businesses. Only three of these applications have resulted in interviews. Two of those interviews ended in rejection. I will know about the third place by the end of the week. Assuming that it takes 15 minutes to fill out a single application, that is five and a half hours worth of paperwork I have done. Tomorrow I am taking in an application to a 23rd place. Will this be the one? I can only hope.

There are some things even men know

There are some things that even men know, such as not to wear light colored pants while you're on your rag. Apparently though, Mischa Barton didn't get the memo.

Arnie has a boo boo

According to this AP report, Gov. Schwarzenegger and son hit a car on Sunday. Both were wearing their helmets, however Arnie still required 15 stitches in his lip.
